Block of 12 Housing and Public Space. Av. Caritg Badalona
Before the intervention it was an urban space, just a piece of unfinished city; an intersection in the form of V and an urban environment inhabited mostly by workers from Extremadura and Andalusian origin. Probably for this reason, even though the buildings of this district have a very modest architecture, have sometimes colorful facades. Of the original situation it seemed important to preserve the joy and colorful facades of the neighborhood and take the opportunity to remodel a small urban space on a human scale that dignifies the neighborhood next to one of the facades of the new building, through recourse always have used the neighbors: color. One of the main challenges of the project was the integration between facade and public space, especially the new facade was part of the same space. The building is conceived as a grand facade of the same color as the pavement of the square. Thus the facade becomes an extension of the square and the square vertically, an extension of the facade horizontally. At the same time, it aims to provide the space for a new use, through a flexible pavement (rubber carpet) and the contribution of a large commercial space on the ground floor of the new building. The vehicles are replaced by trees, playground and an outdoor bar. The alcorques trees are metallic and round; building windows are also metal but square. All other elements, the ground floor and benches, dark color.
